AIB Insights is a peer-reviewed journal publishing Actionable International Business Insights. Short, topical, thought-provoking articles should be akin to written “TED Talks” with an applied/actionable focus that is heavy on insights, but light on references, jargon, and methods. These insights must be relevant to the international business community of researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and educators. Continuing a tradition of outreach to AIB Chapters, we invite submissions related to any aspect of international business in or with Oceania.
Oceania – comprising Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and Papua New Guinea – is a region of great diversity in terms of economic development, cultural and linguistic heritages, identities, quality of governance, and exposure to risks such as climate change and natural disasters. For this AIB Insights special issue on Engaging with Oceania, we seek to attract articles that, taken together, showcase the diversity of international business research, policy and practice in the region.
Indicative topics include, but are not limited to:
- Single country studies examining issues around cross-border innovation and internationalisation, migrant entrepreneurship, indigenous MNEs, MNE corporate social responsibility and the interaction between MNEs and civil society (i.e. NGOs)
- Comparative studies of contrasting institutions across the region, different trajectories of countries regarding openness towards international trade and FDI, stories of coping with adversity, the role of business groups and family firms, and diverse human resource practices
- The geopolitical context of trade and FDI in the region, including the role of regional economic integration, changing patterns of FDI and global value chains, and connections to other regions (e.g. though inward FDI by EMNEs)
- The role of MNEs and public-private partnerships in shaping solutions to combat the impact of climate change, build social resilience and reduce other vulnerabilities in the region, and foster social inclusion in economic prosperity
- Regional and/or industry case studies that examine opportunities and challenges for sustainable development and/or social inclusion through integration into regional or global value chains
- Indigenous cultures and international business, the historical embeddedness of international business (incl. colonial studies) and Oceania as an identity space
- Practitioner and researcher insights about culturally appropriate research methods or IB education, especially in relation to indigenous communities, organizations, and regional challenges
